About Diamond Head Real Estate
Diamond Head is a favorite suburban neighborhood on the South East shore of O’ahu, just a few minutes drive from Waikiki.
Located at the eastern end of Waikiki and on the ocean. The Diamond Head Crater is one of the most famous landmarks and photographed spots on Oahu. Ancient Hawaiians originally named this (now extinct) volcano Leahi, which means “brow of the Tuna”. You can see the shape of the dorsal fin of the tuna in the ridgeline of Diamond Head.
In 1825, British sailors observed small crystals sparkling in the beach sand and named the mountain Diamond Hill. Its name was later changed to Diamond Head. Now a National Park, it has a hiking trail through its crater and a fabulous lookout at the top of its cone.

The Diamond Head community is one of the older established residential neighborhoods on Oahu, and the style of architecture varies greatly. You might find near tear downs valued at $800,000 next to opulent bronzed gated homes.
On the surface, people think of the Diamond Head region as exclusive homes, but it is actually a collection of about a dozen different neighborhoods. There is a variety of houses available from, 1830s plantation-style cottages, 1920s Sears Craftsman bungalows, postwar single wall constructed dwellings, concrete hollow tile homes, and oceanside condos with large distinctive estates.
The designs are as diverse as the ethnic makeup of its community.
Asian, Western, Hawaiian Tropical, contemporary, classic, could describe many of the homes found in the Diamond Head Region. If you are on the beach, hillside or a home facing west, You will see amazing views and watch spectacular sunsets.

Parks and Recreation in Diamond Head
Diamond Head is a convenient location with many exits off the H1 freeway and a grid of many streets to get you around. The base of Diamond Head is Kapiolani Park where you can play soccer, rugby, tennis, and other sports. You can also meet up for yoga, tai chi, jogs, biking, walks or use the archery range.
There are so many activities to choose from within this community:

- The Waikiki Shell Amphitheater hosts many outdoor concerts by world renown artists in the afternoon or evening.

- The Kahala Mandarin has dolphins to swim with,
- The Hawaii Film Studio is at the slopes of Diamond Head and you can often watch filming of movies and Hawaii 5-0 on local streets or private homes used for a set
- Don’t forget the Farmers Market, which is open Saturday mornings and Tuesday nights.
Speaking of eats, this area is known for its many restaurants and fast food drive-ins or “take-outs.”
Kapahulu, and Kaimuki both have a vibrant, local small business district with many chic boutiques, bakeries, eateries, ice cream and shaved ice shops, surfboard shops, bead and craft shops, nail and beauty salons, consignment stores. Ono Hawaiian Food, W&M Burgers, Rainbow Drive Inn are local favorites…mmmm mmmm good!
Kahala is known for its Shopping Mall with anchor tenants Whole Foods, Macys, Longs Drugs, and Consolidated Theatres. You’ll also find Apple, Chili’s, California Pizza Kitchen, The Counter, Starbucks, and more.
